Your information, explained

Privacy notice

A private space for two starts with knowing what is saved, what is shared, and what you can control.

Last updated: November 2, 2026

1. Information used by the experience

TheUsTest stores the first name or nickname you enter, an optional session nickname, your selected answers and predictions, and the test numbers needed to keep earlier results separate from retries. You can use a nickname rather than your full name.

We also store session and participant identifiers, invitation records, access-key hashes, expiry dates, and progress markers such as finishing, choosing ready, and revealing a test. Scores are calculated from the saved choices.

When you contact support, your email address, message, and any information you choose to include are handled through our support email service. Website infrastructure may process technical information such as your IP address, browser details, requested pages, and error logs. The password screen uses a hashed network identifier to limit repeated failed attempts.

2. Why this information is used

  • Save progress and recognize each participant's private access.
  • Connect two participants through an invitation and show progress without revealing answers early.
  • Prepare the shared reveal and retain separate answers and scores for each test.
  • Handle support requests, troubleshoot problems, and protect the service against misuse.

You do not need to provide an email address to take the test. The current questionnaire collects structured choices rather than private journal entries or reflection ratings.

3. What your partner can see

Before the reveal, your partner can see your displayed name and progress or readiness status. Your selected answers are not shown to them at that stage. We do not report whether someone merely opened an invitation link.

After both participants choose Ready for reveal, the session makes answer comparisons and results available to both of you. Revealed choices stay locked under that test number. A retry keeps earlier tests separate.

The person you share with can remember, copy, or capture what they see. TheUsTest cannot control what a participant does with information after the reveal. Link previews show generic brand artwork, not names, answers, or scores.

4. Private access, cookies, and browser storage

The site uses essential access cookies to recognize your browser and participant. These are separate from the shared site password: knowing that password does not identify someone as a participant in your session.

An invitation may also be kept in the browser tab's session storage so you can copy it again. Clearing browser data, using a different browser, or changing domains can remove access even when the answers are still saved. Do not share your private access or recovery links. On a shared device, other people using the same browser may be able to open your session.

The current application does not add advertising or behavioral analytics scripts. Hosting services still process requests to deliver and protect the site.

5. Services that help run TheUsTest

The live experience uses Netlify for its public domain and routing, OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare for hosting and data infrastructure, and Google Fonts for typefaces. Those services receive the technical information needed to deliver their functions. Contacting us also involves the email services used to send and receive your message.

Private session access is an application permission, not end-to-end encryption. Authorized site administrators and infrastructure providers may have technical access to stored information when operating, maintaining, or supporting the service. Information may be processed in countries other than your own.

6. Session expiry and deletion

New, unfinished sessions have a seven-day access window. Revealing a test sets the session's expiry to 30 days after that reveal; a later revealed retry refreshes that window. Earlier tests remain part of the same session.

Expiry stops access through the app. It is not a promise that every stored record or provider backup is erased at that exact moment.

Either participant with access can use Delete our session on the Grow page after the reveal. This deletes the shared session and its associated answers, invitations, and test history from the active application database for both people. If you cannot reach that control, email us to request deletion. Technical logs, email correspondence, or provider backups are separate from the active session and may remain beyond its deletion.

7. Your choices and requests

You can skip questions, pause, and edit your choices before confirming readiness. While your partner is not ready, you can withdraw your readiness to keep editing. Once both are ready, the revealed test is locked; use a retry for new answers or request deletion of the session.

For questions about access, correction, a copy of your information, or deletion, contact help@theustest.com. Describe what you need without sending passwords or recovery links. We may need to verify your connection to the session before helping, especially where a request affects both participants. Rights available to you depend on applicable law.

8. Adults and updates to this notice

TheUsTest is intended for adults aged 18 or older. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us so we can investigate. We may update this notice as the service changes and will revise the date above.
